Atlantic City and the Tri-State Camp Conference

Early in the morning on St. Patrick’s Day, Iliana and I set off on the long drive to Atlantic City, New Jersey for the 2010 Tri-State Camp Conference.  Loaded with catalogs, samples, and good camp spirit (more on that in a bit) we set up our booth awaiting visits from camp directors and staff.

Sponsored by the American Camping Association, the Tri-State Camp Conference brings together camp staff from across Pennsylvania, New York and New Jersey for educational sessions, guest speakers (we heard Henry Winkler, better known as ‘The Fonz’) networking events, and, of course, shopping and checking out what’s new in the exhibit hall.

The camp staff we spoke with were especially interested in our wide selection of custom medals (check out the LBX and the ST series) as well as the traditional flat and point top ribbons.  I’d have to say our multicolor Happy Camper ribbons were also a hit!  Some camp counselors even told us they still have the ribbons they got from when they were campers.

Outside of the expo hall, we took some time to walk the famous Boardwalk and explore the Pier Shops at Caesar’s.  We also met up with camp staff and other exhibitors at Carmine’s at the Tropicana for a family-style dinner.  We even won the camp cheer contest with a rousing “C-A- M- P! That’s the place we want to be!”  While my throat may or may not have been sore the next day, I certainly had a great time and hope that more of you get to catch the camp spirit!

A Look Back at the ASCD Conference in San Antonio

In early March, Rochelle and I headed to San Antonio to take part in the ASCD (formerly the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development) Conference and Exhibition.  Besides reminding ourselves to speak slowly (hey- it’s Texas and we are a bunch of  ‘fast talkin’ Easterners’) we had a great time speaking to teachers, principals, and school administrators from across the country and around the world.

We showed off our rolls of ribbon, medals, and the popular Field Day and Honor Roll multicolor ribbons.  Teachers were impressed that our prices enable even those on a tight budget to give an award to a deserving student.

Outside of the conference, we had fun visiting the Alamo, strolling the Riverwalk,  taking a Riverboat tour, and generally being tourists.   Scroll down for the fun stuff… the pictures!

They do things a little differently in Texas!

USEF 2010 Annual Meeting

The USEF had their 2010 Annual meeting this year in Louisville, Kentucky. Rochelle and Jessica  were there to represent Hodges Badge Company and meet with the attendees.

As the Official Ribbon Supplier of the USEF, Hodges was proud to meet the directors of the multiple breed and discipline associations that attended the convention’s meetings.

As everyone headed to registration or picked up lunch they walked by our award display and had the opportunity to stop and say hello. It was good to hear that so many people  were very familiar with Hodges and our products.

It was also good to be able to show them new products that everyone seemed excited about. One being the Pewtarex plates (check your 2010 Equestrian catalog [hitting the ground March 1] for details).

It was also great to hear how different organizations in USEF use our ribbons.  (Have you ever thought about handing out a 12 inch rosette to all participants and then pinning on buttons to the streamers for each class entered?!)

Perhaps the best part of the trip for Rochelle and Jessica was that they attended the Pegasus Awards, a huge banquet honoring the stars of equestrian sports.  They watched as dressage rider Steffen Peters was named Equestrian of the Year, and Olympic rider and Chef d’ Equipe Jessica Ransehousen was honored for her lifetime commitment to the sport.

While we’ll be back to Kentucky in May for IHSA Nationals, our next event is the Horse World Expo in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.  Hope to see you there!

ASCA – American Swim Coaches Association World Clinic

We’re in Fort Lauderdale this morning at the American Swim Coaches World Clinic and Tradeshow taking place at the Marriot Harbor Beach. If your in town stop by and see us at Booth 506.  We’re showing off our new trophies and exclusive swim level ribbons that haven’t even reached the catalogs yet. We’re pretty excited about this line of ribbons and know the kids will love them.

The clinic started off last night with an opening reception on the beach with a carnival like theme – food, games and fun for all.  The next three days will be busy filled with presentations by vendors and coaches, dinners to honor all the Olympic swim coaches in attendance and an inductee to the Swimmers Hall of Fame.

So once again stop by our booth #506 at the ASCA World Clinic Tradeshow in Fort Lauderdale, FL. We are in the lower level of the tradeshow just beyond the registration desk. We would love to see what you think of our new line and hear what you’re looking for!

Horse World Expo in Maryland

The Horse World Expo in Maryland was a great show this year. It’s been going strong for 13 years now. There were over 100 seminars, lectures and demonstrations, daily exhibitions and a parade of breeds, not to mention shopping, shopping and more shopping.

Attendance was a little down from past years but it’s hard to tell if it was because of the economy or the fact that it was the weekend before the historical presidential inauguration and everyone had other plans. We had the chance to meet with our customers face to face and show them some new products. We got some great feedback on our new silver-plated trays, equestrian plaques and trophies. They loved the fact that they could get silver trays for only $10.

The same show management puts on an expo in Pennsylvania this year too. Check it out>> We won’t be able to make this one but we’re putting it on the schedule for next year. It sounds like another great show for the “Horse World”.

Come visit us.

January is a busy month for Hodges. We’ll be all across the country attending tradeshows in MD, OH and NV.
