Back from the Western States Horse Expo

Rick and I just got back from exhibiting at the 2011 Western States Horse Expo in Sacramento, California.  Even with a lot of caution around EHV-1 there was still good attendance with visitors from Oregon and Nevada in addition to CA.  We got to meet with many customers- both current and prospective, and gave out tons of ribbons, making kids smile with a Clean Pony Award or blue rosette.

Besides manning the booth we got to check out demonstrations (like Cowboy Mounted Shooting)  and lessons by clinicians, including well-known horseman John Lyons, former Olympic dressage rider Charlotte Bredahl, hunter-jumper trainer Nick Karazissis Jr., and competitive trail champion Mark Bolender.

Here are a few photos:

Heading out to the IAFE Convention

Next week, Julie (one of our Missouri-based Customer Service Reps) and I will be heading out to Las Vegas for the annual IAFE (International Association of Fairs & Exhibitions) Convention at the Paris Hotel in Las Vegas.  We will be staffing Hodges’ booth (#436- mark us down if you’re coming!) Monday through Wednesday.

We will be giving away a $100 gift certificate as well as plenty of samples, so please stop by and say hello.  We’ll also have many examples of the rosettes, ribbons, medals, and trophies commonly ordered by fairs.  Even if you’re an existing customer that doesn’t need to place an order, we enjoy talking with you and hearing your feedback.

Come Visit Us at the 2010 NAE4-HA Conference

Next weekend, we’re heading out to Phoenix for the 2010 NAE4-HA National Conference.  The exhibit hall is open Sunday and Monday while the conference runs from Saturday to Thursday.

We’ll have a wide selection of rosettes, ribbons, trophies, and medals for you to examine in person, and we’re also giving away a $100 gift certificate.  We’re excited to meet with 4-H leaders and volunteers, so if you’re going to be at the conference, please stop by and say hello!

Come visit us at ASCA in Indianapolis

Next week, we’ll be heading to the American Swim Coaches Association World Clinic in Indianapolis.  We’ll be set up at booth 513 in the trade show hall all day Wednesday to Friday, as well as Saturday morning.

Anyone who stops by is eligible to enter to win a $100 Hodges Badge gift certificate.  We’ll have samples of our brand new swim trophies and medals, and we’ve also got tons of our multicolor swim class fish ribbons to give away.

So if you’re a swim coach heading to Indy, we’ll be glad to meet you.  And if you know a coach heading to the Clinic, tell them they’d better stop by!

Visit to Western States Horse Expo

Last weekend, Rick and I had a great time in Sacramento meeting with customers and prospective customers at the Western States Horse Expo.  The Expo was huge.  There were four buildings filled with great vendors, a full schedule with clinics (by Olympians) and breed demonstrations, and even a separate Dogs Pavilion with demonstrations by Splashdogs, a dock diving competition for dogs.

Having grown up in New England and always ridden English, I’d never been to a horse auction before, and got to see them auction off over 100 western horses.  I quickly had to learn the auctioneer’s “language”… and be careful not to raise my hand!  I even got the chance to see a model horse (Breyer) competition.

Back out our booth, the customers we spoke with were excited to see our Pewtarex plates and bronze resin trophies in person.  They also were impressed by the wide variety of multicolor side streamers we offer.

One other thing: we also made friends with our neighbors in the booth across the way.  So if you’re out West and need some shavings, be sure to check out Rosebud.

Now I know you’re waiting for the photos… but due to a technical difficulty you’ll have to wait for an update tonight or tomorrow.

Previewing the Western States Horse Expo

Do you live out west?  If you’re a horse person on the west coast, chances are you’ve heard of the Western States Horse Expo, which is taking place in Sacramento from June 11-13.  Here at Hodges we’ve been told that it’s the single biggest horse expo in the U.S.! (Yes, that mean’s it’s bigger than any of the Equine Affaires or Horse World Expo).  So, while we may be late to the party, this year we’re setting up our booth in the Main Market Mall Building A.

Looking at the schedule, there is something for everyone.  Clinicians include Olympian eventer Gina Miles and natural horsemanship proponent Julie Goodnight.  For the kids, there’s the BreyerWest exhibit and Young Rider West with arts & crafts and pony rides.  There’s also a new Dogs Pavilion (we hope the dog show folks will wander over to our area as unfortunately we can’t split ourselves in two) and an evening show each night.  Friday features the Magnificent 7, a multi-discipline trainer’s competition, and Saturday has the Alltech Equestrian Extravaganza, with previews of the events taking place at this year’s World Equestrian Games.

Want to find out more?  Western States’ website is very thorough, with schedules and details for each event.   They’re also on facebook- so check out their page (& maybe win some free tickets).
