One answer is the Annual East Bay Chowder Cook-Off. Every year the best amateur chowder cooks compete for blue ribbons and bragging rights at the Little Compton Community Center’s Chowder Cook-off.
This is a great event. It not only breaks up a long cold New England winter by getting the community together but the proceeds go to a good cause – the community center. This year they will be purchasing a commercial stove for the community center.
Christine Merriman actually took top honors by winning “Best in Show”, “People’s Choice” and “Best Seafood Chowder”. Other winners were: George Morash who won “Best Clam Chowder”, Lee Wyatt who won “Best Vegetable Chowder” and Roger Guillemette who won “Most Creative Chowder”.
